Full accommodation information

Discover a totally off-grid, authentic mobile safari camp at Africa's Savute Under Canvas, Botswana, with highly trained guiding, al fresco dining and butler service.

Five carefully positioned (and semi-mobile) tents are placed in the Savute corner of the Chobe National Park, giving you the perfect base to witness exceptional game viewing in a high quality glamping experience.

The camp is close to the mysterious Savute Channel, which for decades would flow and dry up seemingly unrelated to the rainfall. This unique environment meant the wildlife in the region adapted to different conditions than those in other reserves, and was notorious for being the home of elephant-hunting lions. Today the lion prides are in smaller family groups and renowned for their stand-offs with the resident hyenas, with large numbers of older elephant bulls residing here too. The lush marshland is a haven for birds, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe and kudu, with the rainy season bringing the annual zebra migration.

The camp is for adults only and has no Wifi or electricity. This gives you the perfect excuse to connect with the wilderness of Linyanti in a setting quite unlike any other in the area. All tents have an en suite bathroom and comfy double bed, with a butler on hand for anything you need. Meals are cooked and served around the open fire.

Expert guides tailor safaris and activities to your pace and requests. Don’t miss the extraordinary dolomite rock outcrops of the Gubatsa Hills with their ancient San rock paintings; the photo opportunities brought by the epic sunsets; and a visit to the nearby avenue of ancient baobab trees.

Safari

At &Beyond Savute Under Canvas the safari experience is tailor-made. Game drives are every morning and evening, with the professional guides taking you on a once in a lifetime experience that is bespoke to you. Want to see predators feasting? Capture on camera the elusive African wild dog? Perhaps you want to learn more about the mannerisms of zebra? Or simply be immersed in the bushveld? It’s all possible at this remote camp in a wild corner of the Chobe National Park.

Bird Watching

A safari dedicated to bird watching is well worth a day of your time at Savute Under Canvas. Here there are more than 450 species of bird, most of which are native. In this unique landscape sightings will vary depending on when you visit; the wet summer season from November to March considered the best time for birding. Highlights include the world’s largest flying birds, the kori bustard and the secretary bird, which prey on the snakes and rodents of the grasslands. And the endangered ground hornbill and bateleur eagle are birds you’re unlikely to see anywhere else.

The impact of your stay at this semi-permanent and mobile site is minimal, given that there is no electricity, lighting is solar, meals are cooked over coals and even bathing is from bucket showers. The camp is owned by &Beyond, and the group has chosen Africa Foundation as its community development partner. Africa Foundation is committed to a support programme for local communities which, among other things, provide boreholes so water is accessible, sells hand-crafted basketware in the safari shops, and meets with local people to explain the importance of conservation and how it could benefit their community.
