The Plaza has been a piece of the Big Apple’s social, cultural and architectural history for over a hundred years.

Occupying arguably one of the best hotel locations in New York, on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park, it’s instantly recognisable with an iconic facade, famous for a certain five-star style and overall does not disappoint on a single front.

Step inside and you’re instantly greeted by striking marble pillars, gold edging everywhere, exotic plants, crystal chandeliers and the kind of ceiling decoration that would be perfectly at home in any ancient palace.

Though extravagant – and you’ll find a similar depth of detail throughout – this timeless décor is one of the main reasons for booking a room at The Plaza, as attested by the heads of state, royalty and A-list celebrities who often stay here.

Aside from this museum-worthy interior design, there is plenty else to love about your time at The Plaza, beginning with that enviable postcode. Studded on the corner of 58th Street just yards from Fifth Avenue, you can be shopping in the most famous department stores, visiting the Museum of Natural History or walking through Central Park within minutes.

This fact also means that the views to be enjoyed from certain guestrooms, suites and restaurant areas at The Plaza are also some of the best around. Inside, you then have a sumptuous Guerlain Spa, well-equipped gym and Warren Tricomi Hair Salon, as well as designer boutiques, a fantastic concierge, valet parking and lots to keep little ones entertained if travelling to New York with children.

As you would expect, actual accommodation options at The Plaza are not quite as grandiose as the soaring ceilings, marble floors and gilded bannister rails found elsewhere, though are still luxurious and regal in their own right.

That said, you’ll still find beautiful antique velvet armchairs, heavy drapes, marble-topped coffee tables and yes, plenty of chandeliers depending on exactly which room you choose. From the entry-level Plaza King Rooms to the most bespoke signature suites, there is no compromise on style, standard or design here, as can be said for the fine dining restaurants, live music bars and lounge areas this top New York hotel is so well known and loved for.

Room Options

The majesty and glamour of the landmark Plaza hotel is carried right through from the Plaza King to the Grand Penthouse Suite, as gold embellishments (such as 24-carat gold fixtures), artworks and thick drapes adorn every corner of every room category. All are easily spacious enough for a comfortable seating area, expansive closet space and a deluxe, mosaic-tiled bathroom, with both a separate bathtub and shower also coming as standard for most. Something truly special then comes in the higher category suites, where floorplans increase and the design is bespoke, with certain options (from the Junior Suite category onwards) also coming with butler service and a host of extra perks. Mod-cons and in-room amenities for everyone include marble-topped sinks, iPad room controls, king-size beds, a seating area with sofa or separate living room, a flat-screen TV and a mix of New York City views.

Plaza King

The standard room at The Plaza starts with a spacious floor area of 475sq ft accommodating a king-size bed, plush seating area and pristine white bathroom, most with a separate bathtub and shower.

Deluxe King and Deluxe Two Queens

Upgrade to a 550sq ft Deluxe King for extra space to spread out in or the option of adding a rollaway bed. Most bathrooms offer both a tub and separate shower, while the Deluxe Two Queens option has the same floor space, but twin queen-size beds rather than a king.

Terrace Room King

The Terrace Rooms are the same size as the Deluxe, but come with a balcony overlooking the hotel’s peaceful interior courtyard; most bathrooms also offer both a tub and separate shower.

Grand Luxe King

Starting at 625sq ft, these larger rooms can accommodate a more spacious sitting area and the marble bathrooms also include both a tub and shower, as well as a mix of views.

Family Grand Luxe Two Queen

Ideal for family stays, this room comprises twin queen-size beds with an open-plan lounge area, and the possibility of an additional rollaway bed if needed. The bathroom includes both a tub and separate shower too.

Junior Suite

The 650-700sq ft Junior Suites enjoy a separate lounge area in addition to its king bedroom space, as well as superior views and butler service, as with all suites.

Edwardian Suite

Located on floors 11-19, Edwardian Suites enjoy a range of views, though also much improved floorplans of between 950 and 1,100sq ft, including a separate, wonderfully furnished living room.

Carnegie Suite

This one-bedroom suite affords superb views (either full or partial) of Central Park. The 1,000sq ft floorplan then includes a beautifully furnished lounge in addition to the king bedroom, and luxe bathroom with both a walk-in rain shower and tub.

Pulitzer Suite

Similar in size, layout and style to the Carnegie Suite, the aptly named Pulitzer option affords impressive views of the Pulitzer Fountain and Fifth Avenue from its perch up on the 20^th floor.

Penthouse Suite

You won’t be lacking space in this split-level 1,500sq ft suite. Picture your own New York apartment with rooms spread over two floors, the lower including a lovely lounge, study and powder room, while upstairs is the king-size bedroom with en suite bathroom and a terrace to enjoy views of New York.

Vanderbilt Suite

This impressive 1,500sq ft suite features one king and one queen-size bedroom, two bathrooms, a large living room with a small dining area, and views over both the Pulitzer Fountain and Fifth Avenue.

Grand Penthouse Suite

The Grand Penthouse Suite also spreads over two floors, with a king-size bedroom and en suite bathroom occupying the lower level along with an open-plan living and dining room overlooking Central Park. On the upper floor, another master bedroom also features a king-size bed, en suite bathroom and expansive terrace with lounge chairs, set against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline; perfect.

Royal Suite

The three-bedroom Royal Suite is a sumptuous, 4,500sq ft New York residence accessed via a private elevator. Each of the bedrooms have their own en suite, as well as a magical living room with grand piano, dining room, library, private gym and fully-equipped kitchen, among many more extras; incredible.

Fitzgerald Suite

Anyone who has read The Great Gatsby will fall in love with this intimate, 700sq ft, one-bedroom suite, designed to recreate the glamourous Art Deco era of author F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s unique, super cool and just as well-equipped as all the top Plaza suites.

Tower Room

Hidden away in a turret on the 18^th floor, this unusually shaped though thoroughly fairytale-looking room features a round bedroom with a matching circular bed – ideal for the romantic city break in New York.

Eloise

A dream come true for young fans of the Eloise children’s books, as this pinker than pink king-size bedroom with en suite bathroom comes with all manner of included Eloise treats, such as an Eloise-themed afternoon tea in The Palm Court and an Eloise goodie bag. Parents can then connect with an adjoining suite too.
