Cruise holidays are only getting bigger every year.

So, with 2026/27 voyages for some of the best cruise destinations already filling up, it’s time to think ahead to where you’d like to take your next adventure.

Our Cruise Specialist, Denise, has put together her ultimate cruise destination list that’s top of her radar over the coming year. Take a look for some inspiring ideas on where you could be sailing off to next…

1. Japan

Japan temple

We're kicking off our top cruise destination list in Asia with the show-stopping Japan.

A cruise through Japan showcases a striking blend of ancient tradition and modern innovation.

Many voyages start in Tokyo, where towering skyscrapers contrast with historic temples, before taking a round-trip of the country. From Tokyo, you can board the shinkansen (bullet train) to Mount Fuji, Japan’s most iconic peak, for hikes and up-close views of the natural monument.

If your cruise stops by Osaka, step ashore to explore vibrant street food markets, while Hiroshima and Nagasaki offer insight into Japan’s poignant past. In Kyoto, you can wander the hushed temples, palaces and gardens of the former capital city.

To pack in even more of Asia’s highlights, some itineraries cross to South Korea with stops at Busan, known for its tranquil temples, or Beppu with its abundance of hot springs. You can also find voyages that start in China, meaning you can visit the likes of Shanghai and Beijing – perhaps with a detour to the Great Wall of China – before reaching Japan.

For even more scenic splendour, opt for a cruise during Japan’s cherry blossom season. Alternatively, if you’d rather avoid the crowds, travel during autumn and you’ll be rewarded with the fiery colours of turning foliage instead.

2. Norway

Norway fjords

Norway’s dramatic coastline more than earns its place among the best cruise destinations in Europe, particularly when explored aboard a boutique yacht such as those offered by SeaDream. Heading through the iconic fjords, from Oslo to Tromso, you'll be greeted with some truly magical views, where towering peaks rise straight from the sea and traditional fishing villages cling to the shoreline, while on board you'll savour exceptional cuisine throughout.

Sailing deep into narrow waterways, inaccessible to larger ships, you’ll experience the sheer scale of Norway’s landscapes at close range. The legendary Trollfjord is a highlight, its steep granite walls creating a cinematic entrance. Further north, the Lofoten Islands are sure to astound with their series of jagged mountains, white-sand beaches and colourful rorbuer fishing cabins, offering some of the most striking scenery in Scandinavia.

Along the way, there’s plenty to tempt adventurers. You'll cycle along windswept coastlines, potter around fishing markets, take RIB trips or kayak between valleys, or even take a seaplane ride over glaciers. Plus, if you travel in summer, you'll do it all under the surreal glow of the midnight sun.

Sail Trollfjord & the Lofoten Islands with SeaDream this summer.

3. Alaska

Whales in Alaska

The next choice of best cruise destinations has been popular on top cruise destinations lists for many years.

An Alaska cruise offers a journey through some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America. Sail the famous Inside Passage, where dramatic fjords, towering glaciers, and snow-capped peaks create an awe-inspiring backdrop. You might be lucky enough to witness the colossal Hubbard Glacier, the continent’s largest tidewater glacier, as it calves into the icy waters. Plus, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn about indigenous art and the region’s Gold Rush history.

To get the most out of this top cruise location, you can combine your Alaskan voyage with a journey onboard Canada’s Rocky Mountaineer. After disembarking in Vancouver, you can hop aboard the iconic luxury train to follow the route from Vancouver through Alberta to Banff, passing through the stunning Rocky Mountains and Lake Louise. With the carriage’s panoramic glass windows, you’ll be able to sit back and soak in the scenery of the likes of Rogers Pass and Kicking Horse Canyon.

4. Caribbean

Mayreau, Grenadines

A Caribbean cruise is a chance to take some time out, relax and enjoy the slower pace of life. For some, that will mean taking advantage of their ship’s spa facilities and relaxing on the pool deck; for others, this means taking part in the more active excursions on sea and land, including diving and kayaking.

There are so many different island-hopping routes across the Caribbean that you can enjoy with a cruise. You’ll likely visit a number of the bigger islands, such as Barbados, Antigua, Grenada and St Lucia.

But, if you opt for a smaller luxury cruise ship, you’ll likely be able to stop at lesser-visited or more exclusive locations, such as St Kitts & Nevis, St Barths, St Vincent & the Grenadines and the British Virgin Islands. This is where you can get a taste of authentic Caribbean, where time slows down and beaches are soothingly secluded.

You don’t have to go straight home when your cruise has ended, either – speak to our Travel Specialists about including a post-cruise hotel stay in your holiday to extend paradise that little bit longer.

5. The Adriatic

Croatia

Maybe you have the urge to see a little more of Europe?

The Adriatic is one of the best cruise areas to explore, offering the perfect way to uncover both iconic cities and lesser-known gems across the continent.

Sailing these seas, you’ll discover Croatia’s Zadar, a historic coastal city where Roman ruins meet vibrant café culture. Just inland, the breathtaking Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stuns with its cascading waterfalls and turquoise lakes.

Further along the coast, Montenegro’s Kotor Bay enchants with its medieval old town and dramatic mountain backdrop – be sure to stop to savour some regional wines, too. Many voyages then continue to Italy or Greece, ticking off sleepy islands, sun-soaked beaches and cities like Venice and Athens as they go.

Whether you’re uncovering hidden coastal treasures or soaking up sunshine, an Adriatic cruise is one of the best ways to experience the region’s food, history and stunning landscapes.

6. The Mediterranean

French Riviera

Mediterranean and Adriatic cruises do offer some similarities – and both offer some of the best destinations for cruises in the world.

With a Mediterranean cruise, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Depending on your chosen voyage, you could explore the waterways of Venice, spend a night in the historic city of Athens and hop between Greek islands, all in one trip – or, opt for a smaller yacht-style vessel to take a route from Rome to Barcelona, bookending two iconic cities with stops along the elegant Amalfi Coast and French Riviera.

With plenty of sunshine, food and stunning scenery to soak in, it’s no surprise the Mediterranean is consistently a favourite cruise area for many.

7. Antarctica

Antarctica kayaking

The next expert pick on our cruise destination list is the frozen ‘white continent’ of Antarctica.

Most Antarctica expedition cruises begin in Argentina. Here, you can get a taste of Latin flair in Buenos Aires, stopping to soak in the history and savour the wines and food, before heading into the polar realms.

Crossing the legendary Drake Passage, you’ll enter a world of towering icebergs, creaking glaciers, and abundant wildlife; during your cruise, you’ll likely get the chance to kayak through icy waters, spot huddling penguin colonies and take a Zodiac cruise in search of whales. Plus, the beauty of seeing it with a luxury cruise is that you can retreat to your warm and relaxing lounge while the icy landscape stretches out around you.

8. The Galapagos

Galapagos Island Crab

Get ready for an experiential cruise like no other with a journey to the Galápagos Islands. This remote destination is renowned for its curious collection of wildlife, flora and fauna, making it one of the best places to go on a cruise ship if you're looking for something really special.

What’s more, your Galápagos cruise itinerary can easily be tailored to begin in Peru, allowing you to combine a visit to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley with your wildlife voyage.

A benefit of seeing the Galápagos with a luxury cruise is that it allows for intimate exploration; you’ll board smaller Zodiac vessels for close yet unobtrusive encounters with the islands’ unique creatures. You’ll likely spot blue-footed boobies, giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and flamingos in their natural habitat, with on board experts available to help you learn more.

With pristine landscapes and unparalleled biodiversity, this cruise destination is a must for nature lovers seeking an unforgettable journey through one of the most unique regions on Earth.
