The Pitcher Inn

Intimate, boutique and offering a real sense of place, The Pitcher Inn is a rare find, just 11 individually adorned rooms set around a traditional (though renovated) building that was once a lodging house during the American civil war.

Full accommodation information

The Pitcher Inn is a reassuring unusual boutique hotel in Warren, Vermont, one that is full of surprises, loaded with character and not short of luxurious touches either.

Housed in a building once used to host travellers during the American civil war, there is a historic theme here which runs through the very DNA of the building, something that is easily observed as soon as you arrive through the hotel’s imaginative, cosy interior design.

In the bespoke guestrooms and suites, for example, you’ll struggle to find a more eclectic place to stay in Vermont. Here antique ornaments, Victorian snowshoes skis, artefacts from around the region, artworks and grainy old photographs fill every corner and line every wall, most of which would be worthy exhibits in any museum! They are all individually adorned, some coming with their own warming log fire though all a remarkable achievement in both design and creating an irresistible sense of place.

This is still a leading New England luxury design hotel, however, so behind the fun extras and unforgettable room décor there then lies luxe walk-in rain showers, Jacuzzi bathtubs and an award-winning onsite restaurant serving a New England take on French and Italian haute cuisine. You can also enjoy an in-room massage or make use of the spa, sauna and gym at nearby Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club for free, while staying at The Pitcher Inn, though surrounding the hotel are almost too many outdoor pursuits to fit into one trip.

There’s hiking through the forest, kayaking the Mad River and walking its wider valley, Sugarbush Golf Resort within a few minutes’ drive, skiing and snowmobiling in winter though picturesque hot air balloon rides in summer and autumn, just a few local highlights of Warren easily organised from The Pitcher Inn.

Overall, for a unique, intimate luxury Vermont hotel that has history, a great location, fine dining food, bags of character and proud local roots, it is very hard not to look past the team at Pitcher Inn.

Being such a boutique property, there is not a huge amount of space for onsite facilities at The Pitcher Inn, though guests do have use of the nearby Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club where you’ll find a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, squash and tennis courts plus a gym and climbing wall. In-room massages can also be arranged back at the hotel, as can a host of outdoor activities with the help of a friendly concierge team.

The Dining Room

The Dining Room

Locally sourced and seasonal fine dining cuisine takes centre stage at Pitcher Inn’s onsite restaurant, The Dining Room; it all feels perfectly refined though also extremely welcoming and just a little bit homely – as with the rest of the hotel. The restaurant itself is split into three distinct areas, the Dining Room, the Brook Room and Tracks, with each offering a slightly different ambience from laidback lounge, sofa and fireplace to more sophisticated, with white linen tables, cocktails and candlelight. So, whether you are tempted by a tasting menu and paired wine while you sink into an armchair or prefer a more formal (though equally delicious) sit-down meal of fresh seafood and other seasonal treats, you can find it all here.

  • Lunch
  • Dinner

The Pitcher Inn offers an array of outdoor activities, sports and sightseeing tours which are all available from the hotel itself. Depending on the season you can ski, hike through the Mad River Glen or kayak on its namesake river while here, and the championship Sugarbush Golf Club is also nearby. Other popular pastimes include hot air balloon rides, scenic walking trails through the surrounding forests, snowmobiling and fishing, among many others.
