Full accommodation information

This simple lodge is set in the wild and remote area of Knight inlet, located 50 air miles north of Campbell River on the Pacific Northwest in British Columbia and is reached by float-plane from Campbell River.

Knight Inlet is the longest fjord on British Columbia's coast and offers spectacular scenery as a backdrop for your bear viewing adventure.

Knight Inlet Lodge is built on five floating cement platforms in Glendale Cove and features 18 comfortable rooms all with en-suite facilities and views of either Glendale Cove or the shoreline behind the lodge where you may be lucky enough to see bears. The lodge also includes two outdoor decks, a lounge and dining room where delicious meals are served including crab, salmon and prawns harvested fresh from the pristine waters of Knight Inlet.

The area of Glendale Cove is home to one of British Columbia's largest concentrations of grizzly bears and it is not uncommon to have up to 50 bears within 10 kilometres of the lodge at any one time in the peak fall season. Bears can often be seen from late April and this is when you are more likely to see the tiny cubs in close proximity. During the summer months, the berry crop keeps the bears in the area but they will not be in the higher numbers that are experienced in Spring and Fall. Most bear viewing activities are water-based however in summer viewing is also possible from the platforms at the spawning channel.

At different times throughout the season, additional wildlife viewing activities may be included, such as Orca whale viewing in the Johnstone Strait from July and Humpback whales may be seen during the month of September as they start their journey from Alaska to Hawaii. Hiking and guided kayaking tours into the rainforest and around the estuary are one of the most popular ways to view the scenery and other wildlife and birdlife.
