Full accommodation information

Farewell Harbour Lodge is located on 10 private acres of forested wilderness on Berry Island.

Set within the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park, and on the southern edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, the lodge is ideally situated for both whale and bear watching experiences.

The lodge is easily reached from Vancouver - a short flight to Port Hardy is followed by a 25-minute water taxi ride from Alder Bay through the Queen Charlotte Strait to Berry Island.

A comfortable lounge, dining room and bar can be found in the main lodge building, while a boardwalk leads you to eight ocean-side suites. The floating lodge, formerly located in Bones Bay, is reached by a ramp and features an additional four floating suites. The expansive deck and boardwalk offers ample space to relax, socialise and enjoy the scenic views.

The Great Bear Rainforest is the world’s largest intact temperate rainforest and one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet. Each four-day experience at Farewell Harbour Lodge will include one full day of bear watching activities and one full day of marine-based experiences (weather permitting). Bear watching excursions start with a covered water taxi ride to one of the river systems; you will then transfer to smaller zodiacs and motor or paddle quietly further up river or around the estuaries. There are no purpose-built viewing platforms at Farewell Harbour Lodge, offering you an authentic bear watching experience in the natural habitat. If conditions permit, you may disembark the zodiac and continue your tour on foot. Sail through the Johnstone Strait on a marine excursion in search of Humpback whales, orcas, porpoises and dolphins. Orcas are best seen from mid to late July and through to late September/early October, while Humpback whales may be seen earlier in the season. There is an abundance of bird life resident here, including bald eagles, petrels and oyster-catchers.

  • Superb whale and bear-watching opportunities in the one location
