Knai Bang Chatt

A collection of chic villas in Kep, Knai Bang Chatt provides flurries of contemporary design, beautiful gardens cradling a sleek infinity pool, sea views and more; it all makes for a quietly luxurious Cambodian resort that’s socially responsible too.

Full accommodation information

Having been a popular coastal Cambodian destination in the early part of the 20th century, Kep is now enjoying a resurgence in visitors, with elegant design hotels such as Knai Bang Chatt certainly playing their part in that story; this is among the more unique Kep hotels for its style and décor alone.

Contemporary from the outside though showcasing much more traditional elements within, Knai Bang Chatt is in fact made up of several villas that themselves house a small number of exclusive rooms. Each of these are individually designed with their own mix of locally-inspired artwork, handicrafts, ceramics and wooden furniture, though all are actually intentionally simple, uncluttered spaces in a Cambodian-style of minimalist interior design.

Elsewhere around the grounds, you’ll be treated to ever-endearing sea views, best enjoyed from the infinity pool or sundeck area that integrates itself quietly into its surrounding gardens, only adding to an overall air of serenity that you cannot help but absorb while here. Echoing this relaxed atmosphere, daily yoga and meditation sessions in the verdant gardens also feel entirely apt. The onsite spa meanwhile is open from 10am right through to 10pm, so wellness really is at the heart of the matter while staying at Knai Bang Chatt – you can indulge yourself with essential oil-infused therapies and other treatments using delicate organic ingredients at any time of day!

Once totally rested and restored, having made the most of Knai Bang Chatt’s zen-like ambience, you will no doubt want to discover coastal Kep and take advantage of the many day trips or evenings out easily arranged from the hotel. Kep National Park, for example, is a nature lover's dream come true with its well-marked trails, hiking through jungle-like surrounds to be rewarded by magnificent vistas from numerous viewpoints. Alternatively, in a region where seafood is king, spend a day on the water and learn fishing methods that have been handed down through the generations and, once you arrive back, present your bounty for a local chef to prepare and cook it just for you, a fittingly authentic memory to take home.

Knai Bang Chatt actually dedicates huge resources to supporting local families as part of its socially responsible ethos, fishermen included. For something even more tranquil, however, simply take a relaxing boat tour from nearby Rabbit Island Pier, feet up with an ice-cold drink in hand as the sun sets on the horizon; coastal Cambodia at its best.

Each room at Knai Bang Chatt is individually adorned in a mix of traditional vases, wood hues, ornaments and artworks, most of which also being very light and airy thanks to walls of glass or French windows. Influenced by the ancient Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, these air-conditioned rooms are intentionally minimal, uncluttered spaces that reflect the altogether peaceful surrounds of the wider resort. Bathroom fittings are notably modern however and you’ll also find a handful of in-room amenities, a patio or terrace and either garden or sea views too.
