Hotel information
Singita Kwitonda Lodge is the real deal if looking for an intimate, boutique Gorilla trekking lodge in Rwanda, with just nine private pool suites to its name, an organic kitchen-garden onsite and group of expert guides who’ll lead your small group wildlife walks throughout the Volcanoes National Park. The lodge itself is a joy, all bare stone and wicker weave from the outside, though contemporary furnishings and wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows within. This, mixed with traditional artworks, pottery and tribal artefacts – in addition to the stunningly scenic setting and gorgeous national park views – add a real sense of place to this lodge during your stay.
There is an organic kitchen-garden onsite to service their gourmet restaurant and seasonal menus, plus a lovely lounge bar too, though almost everything else at Singita Kwitonda Lodge can be found within each individual suite, of which there are only nine. All of them follow the same design cues as the rest of the lodge, and come with a private plunge pool and patio, lounge area, king-size bed, indoor and outdoor showers, a deep-soak standalone bathtub (with a view), massage area and plenty of mod-cons throughout. Families can opt for the Two or Four-bedroom Suite categories, with the latter also including a large living room and fully functional kitchen which adds a bit of independence if you need it.
There is no formal kids club here at Singita Kwitonda Lodge, though little ones will have access to games, activities and classes (provided by the team) which will keep them busy while adults go Gorilla trekking, as the minimum age is 15 for this activity. Indeed, Gorilla trekking, hiking, wildlife walks in search of the endangered Golden Monkey and climbing the surrounding volcanoes are the main reasons for booking your stay at Singita Kwitonda, and you couldn’t ask for anywhere more luxurious in this environment. Activities certainly come aplenty here, with a range of challenging and scenic hikes, wildlife spotting and even overnight camping atop Karisimbi Volcano available, plus day trips to local villages and the capital Kigali, in-between all-important Gorilla trekking tours, that is.
Room Options
The nine suites at Singita Kwitonda Lodge are a design dream of traditional Rwandan ornaments and artworks, mixed with a very clever colour scheme of tribal pastels, black granite and wood, plus the kind of five-star touches that you’d expect from a luxury boutique lodge. Each comes with its own private pool and patio, a fireplace, indoor and outdoor showers, a luxe deep-soak bathtub, an in-room massage area, minibar and various other mod-cons (such as Wi-Fi, a minibar and Bluetooth speakers) throughout. The only difference between suites is the number of bedrooms and all also feature floor-to-ceiling windows, meaning the stunning setting at Singita Kwitonda is always in view, whether within your room, out on the veranda or in the pool.
One-bedroom Suite
The One-bedroom Suite at Singita Kwitonda Lodge is a beautifully adorned space, offering all the comforts and in-room amenities of a boutique gorilla lodge, plus traditional elements which lend a real sense of place. This option comes with a king-size bed, private plunge pool, furnished veranda and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows too.Two-bedroom Suite
This two-bedroom option is a great choice if travelling to Rwanda as a family or two couples, thanks to its extra space. Everything else is similar to its One-bedroom equivalent.Four-bedroom Suite
Book the Four-bedroom Suite if looking for extra space and bedrooms, plus a lounge and kitchen. Able to sleep up to 8, this is the best room at Singita Kwitonda Lodge if visiting as a larger family or small group.Facilities/Amenities
Almost everything you need while staying at Singita Kwitonda Lodge can be found within the suites themselves, as even the spa services offered here are all carried out in either a designed massage area or out on your veranda. Communal areas then include an outdoor firepit (which is great for evening drinks), a replantation nursery, conservation lounge of laptops, books and information on Gorillas plus an organic kitchen-garden too. And although there is no formal kids club, the team here have a list of fun-filled activities, classes and games to keep little ones happy while you are hiking, as the minimum age for Gorilla trekking is 15.
Restaurants & Bars
Singita Kwitonda Lodge Dining
Singita Kwitonda Lodge has a proud philosophy of growing as much produce as possible onsite in their organic kitchen-garden. This means that almost everything you eat here will be seasonal and locally sourced, part of the lodge’s approach to sustainable tourism and supporting local farmers or growers. Picnics can also be provided if you are out on a day trip or hike, and both the glass-clad lounge bar, gorgeous patio and outdoor firepit area make for a lovely evening spot to enjoy a glass of wine or two, courtesy of the lodge’s respectable wine cellar.
