At the McDowell Sonoran Preserve there are 60 miles of marked trails and also hiking opportunities at Camelback Mountain as well as Lost Dutchman State Park and Tonto National Forest. You'll see desert plants in the Sonoran Desert such as agave and the prickly pear as well as animals such as jackrabbits and cactus wrens. Visit between March to late May when the desert landscape is alive with Spring blossoms.
There is a vast range of accommodation on offer from luxury golf and spa resorts, stylish boutique hotels and desert retreats. Summers in the 'Valley of the Sun' can reach 40 degrees Celsius whilst January and December are the coolest months at 19 degrees Celsius.
