Hotel information
Go off-grid and surrender to the call of the wild at The Berkeley River Lodge in Western Australia, an adventure hotel with the Timor Sea as its front yard, and the majestic landscapes of the Kimberley as its playground.
The Berkeley River Lodge is a remote hideaway; the definition of blissful, barefoot seclusion, flung far off in the north-east Kimberley, between the Timor Sea and Berkeley River. The only way to get here is either by flying from Kununurra or Darwin – or taking a boat ride from Wyndham – and when you do, sugary beaches, undulating sand dunes and craggy cliffs await.
The lodge comprises a collection of villas, plus the main building, all strung along the bluff. They feel totally private and bring you closer to nature with outdoor sundecks to the front, and alfresco bathrooms at the back. These even feature standalone tubs and showers for bathing in the open air, particularly magical after dark when a canopy of stars lights up the sky.
Adventure is the buzzword here at The Berkeley River Lodge, which encourages outback exploration via 4WD, boat, helicopter and on foot. Discover rock art nearby, go fishing, swim in rock pools, and look out for the abundant wildlife that populates the land and sea: think Crocodiles, Dugongs, Turtles, Sharks, Birds, Rock Wallabies and others. Back at the lodge, unwind in your ocean-facing, standalone villa; luxuriate in the open-air bathroom; go for dips in the swimming pool; feast on contemporary Australian fare; and toast your spectacularly isolated escape with a glass of fizz.
Facilities/Amenities
An oasis in the Kimberley, the 20m-long swimming pool at The Berkeley River Lodge is where you’ll want to linger. Cool off in the water, relax on a daybed, and admire the rugged scenery all around. Within the central building there’s a library and internet connection – should you want it!
Restaurants & Bars
Dunes
The restaurant at The Berkeley River Lodge, Dunes, flaunts an al fresco terrace overlooking the dramatic coastline, a breathtaking accompaniment to your exquisite meal. The chef takes great pride in presenting high-quality ingredients from around the world on your plate, whether that’s grain-fed Angus beef or Tasmanian smoked salmon, elevated with fine-wine pairings and moreish cheese to finish. You can request specific dishes too, if you have something in mind!

Activities & Entertainment
Exploring the great outdoors is very much the order of the day here at The Berkeley River Lodge, with seemingly infinite miles of untouched cliffs, gorges and sands enveloping the hotel. Set out to explore the Kimberley on a 4WD adventure, careering over the unspoiled beaches to see Saltwater Crocodiles and Sharks, stopping for a gourmet picnic along the way; or venture into the bush and take a break beneath an ancient Boab tree. You can also embark on nature hikes, walking to the Casuarina Falls, witnessing ancient rock art and relishing a swim in the freshwater pools, or discover the Kimberley by boat, cutting through the creeks that carve up red-rock landscapes. Another must-do during your stay is a helicopter tour, whether to King George Falls, the coastal wetlands, or at sunset – you can also try heli-fishing!
