Full accommodation information

The Bay of Islands is quite rightly known as a real highlight of New Zealand, a natural New Zealand gem that simply must feature on your North Island itinerary, and when you have boutique vineyard accommodation options such as The Landing, it is easy to see why.

Starting with the lodge itself, the entire complex is made up of just four gorgeous villas, all coming with multiple bedroom-suites, a fireplace in the lounge, communal areas, beautiful bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, gardens and outdoor terraces to dine on. Each villa is then completely unique in its architecture, interior design, location and view. The Boathouse is, for example, a waterfront retreat that has its own distinct feel, while Cooper Residence enjoys an elevated hilltop view. The Vineyard Villa is then set amidst picturesque grape vines and feels entirely secluded, while Residence Gabriel looks like an enchanting New Zealand farmhouse overlooking Wairoa Bay; albeit a modern and thoroughly luxurious one.

Within your private North Island escape at The Landing, you can simultaneously enjoy the freedom, facilities and views that these stunning homesteads are known for while also fully indulging too. This could be in the form of a spa treatment and massage on your veranda, or calling upon the hotel’s world-class chef to create a bespoke menu just for you, both preparing and serving it in the villa itself. This works perfectly as there is no formal restaurant or bar at The Landing. What is provided however, in addition to the natural beauty that surrounds you, includes a gym and hammam plus plenty of equipment for biking, snorkelling and scuba diving, fishing and kayaking, you can charter a yacht or take a day trip to nearby Maori sites; and that’s just for starters.

This then, added to an onsite award-winning vineyard primed for tasting tours, six private beaches, a nearby bird sanctuary and weapons plus over a thousand pristine acres to explore on foot, helps make The Landing a truly unique New Zealand resort to remember.

Each of the four available villas at The Landing are entirely bespoke, individually decorated and with architectural nuances to fit their exact setting and surroundings. That said, every one is as comfortable, well-equipped, high-end and beautifully decorated as the next, with both outdoor and inside spaces to enjoy. You have multiple suite-standard bedrooms; luxe bathrooms of standalone tubs and rain showers; a fully-equipped kitchen; living rooms with a fireplace and sofas; artworks on the walls and Maori artefacts too; a powder room: pantry; laundry room and so much more. These boutique vineyard retreats are essentially fully-functioning private homes, making your stay at The Landing even more effortless than it was already bound to be in such a setting.

Cooper Residence

Cooper Residence

Taking pride of place on a hilltop with stunning surrounding views, Cooper Residence is a great option if looking to maximise your enjoyment of its sprawling outdoor space, and accompanying coastal panoramas. The villa can sleep up to 12 people in five supreme bedrooms, there’s also a library of interesting books and antique photo albums, lovely lounge and fireplace, both inside and al fresco dining spaces plus a lovely roof terrace – ‘the Observatory’.
Gabriel Residence

Gabriel Residence

Within the Gabriel Residence, you’ll find a modern family home of four king-size bedrooms, multiple open and semi-open terraces to enjoy the views from, and a gorgeous barn-like living room with fireplace. Another standout feature is its games room, complete with a pool table and library. In addition to the same kitchen and bathroom facilities found in all four villas, it is the bare wood rustic-chic design and high-beamed ceilings that really make the Gabriel Residence stand out.
Vineyard Villa

Vineyard Villa

The Vineyard Villa is set among The Landing’s own wine-producing grapevines, and being surrounded in such a way also provides a great sense of privacy here too. Slightly smaller than its neighbours with just two king-size bedrooms, this is one of the more intimate accommodation options at The Landing, though its Wairoa Bay views, open-air fireplace, those outdoor dining and lounge spaces plus walls of glass are among the Vineyard Villa’s many unique selling points.
The Boathouse

The Boathouse

If waterside accommodation while in the Bay of Islands is your thing, then you cannot get much better than booking The Landing’s Boathouse villa. Here, two king-size bedrooms will sleep four people within, while outside you’ll find a waterfront sun patio and loungers, al fresco dining areas and private gardens too. Overall, The Boathouse delivers an atmosphere in its design and layout that really provides an extra element to that prime coastal location.

In addition to the many amenities already provided in your private villa and six surrounding private beaches, the landing also has a gym and hammam, tennis and basketball courts, plus spa and massage treatments that can be arranged within each residence. An onsite vineyard and those sprawling grounds, as well as any equipment needed for snorkelling, kayaking, mountain biking, paddle-boarding or fishing complete the picture here, as it’s all provided.

Both The Landing and wider Bay of Islands are a veritable treasure trove of outdoor activities, scenic sites and memorable adventures, whether exploring some of the archipelago’s 140 islands by boat, stopping for a secluded picnic on a deserted beach or getting stuck into some adrenaline sports – you’ll find it all here. The Landing provides everything you need for mountain biking, kayaking, watersports such as surfing and snorkelling, wine tasting and wildlife tours. Though there’s more, as private yachts are available for charter here, so too day trips visiting a local bird sanctuary and wetlands or old Maori forts and settlements. You can play golf at the nearby courses of Waitangi and Kauri Cliffs, go whale watching if visiting between November and April, or simply sit on your veranda and chat to the in-house wellness team about a massage or spa treatment; nothing is off the cards at The Landing.
