Hotel information
Set on the dramatic, remote coastline of the south-west island of Sumba, an area known as “the edge of wilderness”, this former surfer’s retreat is now an outstanding beach resort.
Dining here is in a laid-back environment, yet with refined, healthy dishes on the menu and exquisite views. The Ombak open-air restaurant is à la carte, with dining experiences during the week; the Nio Beach Club offers delicious fresh fish and wood-fired pizzas with your feet in the sand; and there is also a selection of dining adventures for an extra special gastronomic treat.
With just 32 villas, accommodation has a boutique feel, where locally inspired interiors and pieces made by local craftsmen combine to give a truly authentic Indonesian space. There is a superb range to choose from; rustic, ‘outdoors-in’ sea-facing, thatched villas, to elegant beach villas with plenty of space for groups or families.
As one of the world’s premier surfing destinations, lessons are available in-resort, and guests who already know how to ‘hang ten’ can reserve their time slot on the reef’s famous left-hand break. Those who prefer their activities land-based might enjoy the array of equestrian activities on offer, or why not combine the two with ‘horse surfing’?! But if all that sounds like far too much of an adrenaline rush while on holiday, there’s always the Nihi Oka Spa Safari… a full day of chilled out indulgence!
