This tour visits the ancient walled city of Nizwa, home to the renowned, 17th century round tower fort, vibrant souqs and traditional markets. Several mountain villages, historic ruins and the castle of Jabrin are included in the itinerary, as well as a three-night luxury stay at Shangri La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort.

Itinerary

Day 1 Muscat - Nizwa

Leaving Muscat in the morning, the tour heads to Nizwa, stopping en route at the Seeb fish market, the fort at Nakhl and the pretty mountain village of Birkat Al Mauz, known for its date plantations. Reaching characterful Nizwa - the birthplace of Islam in Oman - explore the striking 17th-century Nizwa Fort and the ancient city walls, before checking in for your stay at the Golden Tulip Nizwa hotel.

Day 2 Jabrin - Tanuf

After exploring beautiful Nizwa a little more, perhaps visiting the bustling local souq, the tour continues towards Jabrin. Another 17th-century castle and an important seat of Omani learning, Jabrin showcases ornate ceiling painting and artfully executed wood carvings. Next, enjoy a stop at Tanuf, a tranquil ruined village, featuring crumbling mud walls and plenty of history, before returning to Muscat.

The luxurious Shangri La’s Barr Al Jissah resort is your home for the final three nights of the tour, allowing you to unwind in the pools, spa, gardens, or on the beautiful beach, overlooking the Gulf of Oman.
