Enthroned on the Zambezi River shoreline, with the sight of roaming wildlife in plain view, the Royal Zambezi Lodge is a delightful safari camp in Zambia with so much scope for adventure.
The Lower Zambezi National Park spans 1,500sq miles of vast, rich wilderness, the playground of many an Elephant, Zebra, Lion, Hippo, Buffalo and plenty other incredible creatures.
Poised on the edge of this reserve is the Royal Zambezi Lodge, right on the banks of the Zambezi River with far-reaching views of an untamed land and its wandering wildlife.
This Zambian safari lodge has been made to segue subtly into the scenery, comprising just 15 canvas homes for guests sheltered beneath sturdy thatched huts. Each is roomy, with a minimum floorplan of 62sq m, and evokes a natural ambience with solid wood features, white mosquito nets billowing over king-size beds and wide windows framing the bush and river just outside. Conveniently, all of the guestrooms sport private pools and verandas, though if you’d like to push the boat out a little further then opt for one of the Presidential Suites, which also feature freestanding copper tubs and daybeds overlooking the river.
Every day, friendly guides take visitors out into the bush on game drives, walking safaris and birdwatching excursions, or down the river on boat tours, canoeing trips or fishing expeditions. There’s plenty to see and do here, then when you’re ready to unwind you can look forward to delectable meals throughout the day, a rather special Bush Spa, dips in the shared pool or your private plunge pool, drinks on the veranda and quiet moments spent reading in the lounge.
However you prefer to relax, the Royal Zambezi Lodge has you covered.

Room Options
There are just 15 guestrooms at Royal Zambezi Lodge, set under canvas beneath a solid wooden structure with thatched ceilings, surrounded by the trees. The guestrooms blend in harmoniously with the natural landscape, all earthy tones and wooden finishes with spacious verandas – there’s nowhere better to admire this majestic scene. They all come with plunge pools so you can cool off from the heat of the day, but the Presidential Suites also boast freestanding copper tubs, living areas and outdoor daybeds for that extra luxurious touch.

Royal Zambezi Lodge Dining
The Royal Zambezi Lodge is at your beck and call to deliver fine fare throughout the day, starting with a light breakfast early in the morning to fuel you up before the morning game drive, and ending with a hearty dinner under the starlit sky. In-between, you can sit down for a Royal Breakfast laden with continental dishes or the full cooked meal, then stay for lunch or enjoy a picnic while out and about in the national park. With such delights as chicken and roast vegetable skewers, spiced rice and three bean salad, served on a table dressed in white linen, you’ll find that this is no ordinary al fresco picnic! Later in the day, afternoon tea is served in the lounge, then a supper of delicacies such as grilled trout with apple salad could be savoured in the shared area, out in the wild or in the privacy of your suite.

Activities and Entertainment
Game drives at the Royal Zambezi Lodge take place early in the morning, late in the afternoon or in the evening – the best times to see the Big Five and other resident animals. If travelling with the family, these safaris can be customised for children too, and they’ll also love playing boule on the riverbank or going fishing for bream. Other safari activities available at the Royal Zambezi Lodge include bush walks – getting up close to smaller species and plants – birdwatching, and canoeing on the river, where you can paddle gently and get an audience with an Elephant or Buffalo, if you’re lucky. Another signature safari experience here in the Lower Zambezi National Park is enjoying a river cruise, stopping for a picnic in the shallows of the water or watching the wildlife go about their day.
Facilities
Royal Zambezi Lodge has a main reception, restaurant, lounge and deck, where you can mingle with fellow guests, browse the book collection or take a seat by one of the fireplaces. There’s also a shared pool overlooking the river, and a rowing machine if you fancy working up a sweat. One of the top highlights of the lodge is then its Bush Spa, an open-air haven positioned to face the Zambezi River, where you can indulge in a range of treatments using ingredients sourced locally, lulling you into a state of pure zen.
